Beaded Jacket Finished!

Yes, I know I wasn't supposed to be blogging for a couple of weeks and only a week has passed since I last blogged but I finished the beaded jacket today so thought I'd post a photo.

Design: My own
Yarn: Wendy Dolce (charity craft fair donated yarn)
Beads: Earth Faire
Buttons: Beads used instead (from Pink Palace)

In the end, I bottled out of the twisted i-cord edging because I couldn't face sewing it all on and I read that it can stretch after it's been attached. So, the button bands are just plain double crochet and the bottom and sleeve edgings are crocheted picot edgings.

Here's a close up of the butterfly lace pattern with beads added.

If things had gone as planned, we would be in Wales now helping our DS to celebrate his birthday but the auto-immune condition that I have decided to make an appearance with some boring symptoms so I finished the jacket instead.

I also received the One Skein book in the post yesterday morning.

For those who are still having difficulty getting hold of this in the UK, I got mine from the Knitting & Crochet Guild. I sent a parcel to my One Skein Secret Pal and she seems to be delighted with the contents which I'm pleased about. I'm already planning what to send next month and what to make for the final parcel. There are a few projects I liked the look of in the One Skein Book but I've come up with a couple of ideas of my own on what I could make with just one skein so still pondering!

That is really beautiful. A gorgeous jacket. Such fine knitting.
I attach the twisted i-cord as I go. One of my favourite edgings. Never had any problems.

I bought One Skein for my Secret Pal who is in the US. I bought it on ebay.com and had it shipped here, so I can send it back to the US for my pal. How many air miles?
I've had a quick look at it. I like the felted bag and the muffins!

Thought you wouldn't get to 2 weeks ...! Thing is, you just have to show and tell when something's worked out so well, and I for one don't blame you a bit! How are the bookshelves coming along?

I'm glad you came back early - I miss people if they go away :) The beaded jacket is a triumph! Well done you. Butterfly lace and beads is a beautiful thing.

I'm going to get One Skein one day but I'm being patient for a change ;)

Hope you feel better soon. Several of us are in the wars right now.

It's beautiful. The beads as buttons work perfectly and are a great match. I think you did the right thing with the crochet borders as they look great. Well done,it's wonderful.

Thanks for all those lovely comments. I keep picking faults with the jacket myself and I redid the edging I don't know how many times and am still not all that happy with it so it's great to hear that I didn't do such a bad job after all! The picot edging needs blocking I think but I don't want to block the whole jacket as it's a fluffy yarn and I find that too much blocking will flatten the fluffiness.

Beverley, yes, the jacket will be sold or auctioned or raffled for the November Cancer Charities Craft Fair but not sure which yet. I did put a lot of work into it and I'm a bit concerned that it may not sell for very much (relatively) at a charity craft fair. So, maybe putting it in the raffle or auctioning it on eBay would be best. I need to discuss these things with the organiser next time we meet.

Emma, you say you attach the twisted i-cord as you go. How do you do that? Sounds like you're knitting it on and I know that a single strand of i-cord can be knitted on but how do you knit on two strands twisted together??? I'd love to know as it would make it so much easier and nicer to do.

Mary Lou, yes, you're right. It's very tempting to post photos when you've finished something as it's so helpful to get the feedback. The bookshelves - well. we're getting there! ;-)

Nanatoo, sorry to hear that several of us haven't been up to par. Must call in on the blogs again today.

Rain, thanks for the feedback on the buttons (beads). I wondered if I'd done the right thing! :-)

Sorry you have been under the weather, hope you are feeling better now.

Thanks very much for the link to get the One Skein book. Amazon UK have been faffing around with my order since early May!

The jacket is beautiful, I love the colours. I have the One Skein book, have done the little baby bolero (and mine was not nearly as bumpy and uneven as it looks in the book) using the yarn given in the book, from Stash in Putney. Mine came out slightly larger than it said, but I still got it out of the one skein, and I decorated it with some crochet flowers.

Wow! I'm very impressed! I hope it makes a worthy sum at the gift fair.

Sorry to hear you've been unwell. I think we tend to hear all the good bits of each others lives via blogs and forget that we all have harder times too. Hope you're on the mend now.

The jacket is gorgeous! I love the crochet trim, and the buttons complement the jacket so well.

At our knitting groups we were thinking ourselves about how to raise the most money for our up and coming charity event in National Knitting Week, and we think that anything that has had a huge amount of work put into it would probably do better in an auction or raffle.

Sorry to hear you haven't been doing too well, hope you're doing better now.
